Algea: first algea congres in the Netherlands
May 27 2008 the first congress on the future of algea was held (www.algencongres.nl). Science, Production/processing and applications were adressed by many keynotespeakers. The efficient production of biodiesel from algea is far away but CO2 compensation is a topic. The use of several algea produced in an open or closed environment systems offer many promising opportunities for feed and food. For dairy cattle algea as a feedadditive can increase the amount of unsaturated fatty acids in milk. There are legal presently to feed algea to cattle but these are expected to be lifted.
